Abstract
An analysis of capacity, cost and earning structure was conducted for the sawntimber industry of Peninsular Malaysia. The analysis was done using data from actual production o-peration of sampled sawmills in seven states in Peninsular Malaysia. The results indicate that sawntimber production is still profitable with raw materials and wages being prominent in the total cost structure. The study also provides some evidence that excess capacity is positively related to average cost.
