Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine whether paddy Oryza Sativa L. straw can be used as the lingo-celulose fiber in cement composite boards and also to obtain the basic properties of paddy straw fiber cement composite. The other materials that were also used in this study were Portland cement fine grounded sand and water. The length of paddy straw fiber used was between 10mm to 30mm. All of materials were initially mixed together to make a paddy straw fiber cement composite sample and the ratio of the optimum mixtures determined by using a trial and error method. The products were tested to obtain the values of bending strength MOE andMOR tensile strength Internal Bonding thickness swelling and water permeability based on the methods specified by MS: 934:1986. The values obtained from the tests were analyzed using the SPPS program ANOVA test to determine the significance of the interactions between fiber:sand ratio gave the maximum value of basic properties while the 7:13 value of fiber:sand ratio achieved the minimum requirement of MS943:1986 except for the value of modulus of rupture MOR. This study also showed that the fiber:sand ratio have a significant interaction to the basic properties of paddy straw fiber cement composite.
