Abstract

The bathymetry of Seberang Prai Selatan SPS waters was studied from February till June 2005. This study was conducted using a single beam echo sounder GPS and computer software generate the bathymetry map and 3-dimensional simulations. This study aims to understand the changes to the sea bed of SPS caused by the tsunami of 26 December 2004 and their effects on the fish farmers in SPS. The results showed that SPS waters had experienced a Negative Wave that removed most of the mud lying on the trenches and sea bed leading towards the centre tsunami wave force. Since most of the cages in Sungai Udang were positioned in water less than 3m deep the main cause of injuries to the fish cultured here is probably the back-wash.
