Effective ergonomics intervention in small enterprises in Bali

Abstract

It is generally accepted that the characteristics of small enterprises are lacks in management knowledge capital training and education technology marketing and occupatinal safety and health. Therefore poor and hugh-risk working environments are commonly found. It is also a fact that working environments are commonly found. It is also a fact that working environment has also become a living environment. In order to make work more human ergonomics interventions were conducted in some small industries. The interventions made included improvement of working body postures microclimates rest break occupational nutrition and management. All those were included in the programs which consisted of awareness- implementation-program and follow-up. In the awareness program a workshop on SHIP approach was conducted to build awareness of employees and employers. In the implementation program the principles of appropriate technology and SHIP approach were applied. Duting the follow-up phase criticsms were given by everybody for improvement. The positive effect of the intervention obtained in one industry was demonstrated as a good example or demo plot to other industries. The results found are also as follows : as the work station was improved the work productivity increased associated with decreased of MSD. In some enterprises improvements were also associated with an increase in economic gain for the workers. A feeling of statisfaction of employees employers and researchers was noticed.
