Abstract
The usefulness of remote sensing and Geographic Information System GIS in land resources monitoring and management in Malaysia is increasingly gaining acceptance. This includes the application of the two techniques which can be integrated in managing forest resouces. Specifically in forestry the application of these techniques ranges from mapping of forest area monitoring of forest changes due to logging and other activities identifying suitable logging area suitable protected area and estimating forest biomass. Another potential and important use of these techniques is in forest hydrology including for watershed management. Hydrology is the science of water which concerned with the origin distribution and properties of waters of the earth. Water as a resource needs to be managed sustainably hence the use of remote sensing and GIS in watershed management can be viewed as an important and useful endeavour. This paper describes some aspects of watershed management in which the technique of remote sensing and GIS can be applied either independently or integartively.
