Abstract

The effects of N P and K fertilizers on bunch components and oil yield were studied in detail. Bunch analyses carried out from a 42NKx2P fertilizer trial were obtained over a three-year period. Statistical analyses were done taking into account the known effects of seasonal variations of the peak and through on O/B in each year. This was because fresh fruit bunch FFB yield production was significantly different in the two six monthly periods. This could be due to the compounding effects on bunch number bunch weight and total oil/bunch produced. Regression analysis further showed that high N application decreased F/B but with minimal application effect on O/B. Fertilizer P application on the other hand significantly increased nut weight and decreased mesocarp to fruit ratio M/F. Unlike fertilizer N regression analysis showed that high K decreased F/B and O/B. The details on how fertilizer K causes a drop in O/B are discussed in this paper.
