Abstract

A study was conducted at the MARDI Research Satation Bukit Kayu Hitam Kedah using 5-year old carambola trees to investigate the effect of Butralin in the control of shoot growth in carambola. The result of this study strongly suggests that Tamex solution can be used to inhibit sprouting and re-growth of water shoots from pruning cur in carambola cultivation. The ability to control excessive water shoots growth will be of considerable benefit to the starfruit industry in Malaysia. However large-scale trial should be conducted to determine the economical impact on manpower management. If satisfactory results occur this chemical may become a very useful tool in controlling excessive shoot growth in carambola cultivation.
