Abstract

Yield pattern of mature durian clone. D24 and rainfall distribution in Jerangau was monitored for years 1990-1999. Alternate bearing and yield variation between and within trees is very common in durian D24. High yield was observed in the years 1991 1992 1995 and 1997 which exceed more than 4000 fruits. Rainfall at flower emergence anthesis dates and fruitlet formation stage is critical and can highly influence yield. Too little rain prior to anthesis as in years 1990 1993 1996 1998 and 1999 has a harmful effect on the flower set which caused low fruit yield. At anthesis it is important that there is no rainfall so that pollinators are active to pollinate flowers successfully. Rainfall is not required at 3 weeks after anthesis so that leaf flushing cannot take place and to ensure that source-sink relationship is not altered.
