Following the commitment of Malaysia to various MEAs and the proclamation of the National Policy on Biological Diversity various long-term monitoring mechanisms have to be designed and implemented to monitor the status and sustainability of our diverse wildlife species and populations. This paper discusses the Department of Wildlife and National Parks DWNP experiences in establishing a monitoring mechanism and the collaborative efforts needed to implement a systematic monitoring mechanism for wildlife throughout Malaysia.
