Abstract
Taman Negara is well known protected area visited by tourists both who seek nature experience. The rapid development on ecotourism in Taman Negara Pahang provide opportunities for locals to involve themselves as ecotourism operators and related bussines by providing services to visitors. However there is need to sustain the eco-tourism by pursuing best practice which is required under the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development. One of it is related to tourism protected areas such as national park. A study was conducted in Taman Negara Pahang to evaluate the feedback of operators on best practise of eco-tourism which is based on four core dimensions including the environment education economics and social. The study found that based on social economics benefits the respondents have shown an increased in income among those who involved in eco-tourism industry with monthly income ranging from RM1 296 in 2002 when compared to less than RM599 in 1992. On the responses of operators on best practice a large majority 90 agreed on these issues including the eco-tourism certification program 91.4. The respondent group guides and non-guide length of involvement in related bussines shows a moderate association compared to their age and education background. The output from factor analysis confirmed that the best practice made up one of the important factor as widely claimed. This was later followed by factors that cover the aspects of awareness on the environment education on conservation behavior and ethics toward the environment.
