Abstract
A Sequence of Events and Casual Factor chart and interacive model were developed as part of a research project investigating loss of control events LCE involving quadbikes also known as ATV or all-terrain vehicles on New Zealand farms. In comparison to road traffiv crashes very little has been published on methods suitable for the investigation of off-road vehicle incidents such as those that occur on farms. In particular it has been noted in New Zealand that there is a lack of practical field tools that can be used to collect data not only on individual factors but on the more complex risk factor interactions. A review of the literature and consultation with specialist in the related fields of air accident investigation and forensic psychology led to the development of the interactive model and modified event chartand also a set of on-site techniques to optimise recall detail and accuracy including : context-reinstatement the use of props participative graphic event charting and evidence corroboration. The overall method proved robust in the field for discussing analysing and recording events and the multi-levefactor interactions behind these.
