Abstract

Water resource exploitation and utilization in Malaysia is mainly based on surface water. Such as dependence places heavy reliance on the ability of catchment areas to produce surface water. A catchment areass ability is controlled by a delicate balance of the natural environment especially by such parameters as vegetation cover and infiltration capacity. When this delicate balance is disturbed changes in surface water characteristics are likely to occur which work to the detriment of the catchment areas ability to generate water. Physical development on catchment areas are features of Malaysias quest for development much to the degradation of the quality of its environment. This in the run will have effects on the nations ability to increase its water resources.
