Abstract

Mysids were sampled using emergent traps with 1m2 mouth area. Samples were taken forthnightly over a 13-month period from July 1988 to 1989 and coincided with the lunar phase i.e. new moon and full moon. Samples from the traps were replaced in the mornings and evenings. Twenty-four species from 4 subfamiles of mysids were identified throughout the study. A total of 997 individuals were taken of which 94 were sampled from traps at night. A t-test showed a significant difference of mysids sampled during the day with Anchialina media. There appears to be 4 peaks of abundance spreading almost equally over the time period i.e. August November February and April. O these the highest peak of population abundance was that during April.
