Abstract
The Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve 40 711 ha situated on the north-west coast of Perak consists of many island and numerous waterways estauries channels inlets and streams. The environmental parameters studied during a period of three years were turbidity temperature pH oxygen and salinity. The waters were characterised by a temperature of 30 deg C and a pH of between 6.8 and 7.5. Salinities and dissolved oxygen in the waterways varied depending on the tide and rainfall. Slightly acidic and low oxygen levels are probably induced by presence of large quantities of dissolved and particulate organic in the waterways.
