Abstract
A pure bacteria culture containing Isolate 1 and Isolate 2 which is capable of degrading carbaryl C12H11NO2 were isolated from soil taken from a tobacco field in Merang Terengganu. The field has been treated with carbaryl for more then ten years. The pure bacterial culture grew on carbaryl as the sole source of carbon and nitrogen in a mineral salt medium supplemented with Carbaryl as a sole source of carbon and nitrogen. However between both isolates bacteria Isolate 1 Enterobacter sakazaki showed more ability to degrade carbaryl than Isolate 2 Corynebacterium kutsceri after six days incubation in a minimal salt medium.
