Abstract

An experiment was conducted to determine the production of hydrolytic enzymes endoglucanase EG and endopolymethylgalacturonase EPMG by different bacterial isolates. Twelve diazotrophic strains isolated from rice plants were selected and grown on Jensens agar media with substrates carboxymethylcellulose CMC for EG and citrus pectin for EPMG. The results showed that seven diazotrophic strains were positive with CMC and pectin reactions whereas five diazotrophic strains were negative with both CMC and pectin reactions. Three isolates Sb26 Sb41 and Sb42 produced the clearest halo zone. The study showed the ability oflocal diazotrophic strains to produce hydrolytic enzymes.
