Abstract

In the present study a derivative of apigenin namely 4-ethoxy-5 7 dimethoxyflavone has been synthesized from phioroacetophenone via its chalcone precursor followed by the treatment of iodine in dimethylsulfoxide DMSO. Structures of the synthesized compounds were elucidated by infrared IR ultraviolet VV mass spectrometry MS and nuclear magnetic resonance IB NMR spectroscopic methods. The anti-multidrug resistant Staphylococcus aureus MRSA activity of 4 -ethoxy-5 7-dimethoxyflavone and its corresponding chalcone were performed in vitro using the minimum inhibitory concentration MIC value determination assay and efflux assay.
