Abstract

A study on the ethnobotany of mangrove forests in Sabah was conducted on two localities namely.Manumbuk Forest Reserve and Tawau Forest Reserve in Beaufort and Tawau districts respectively: Interviews with the local villagers living around the mangroves were conducted. Two 20 m x 20 m temporary plots were also established in each district to analyze the pattern of plants used by the villagers. Results of the study showed that not less than 70-80 species of plants found in mangroves are used by the local communities. Types of plants utilized are also presented. This study concludes that local villagers living around mangroves depends on mangroves plants for their everyday lives.
