Abstract

Cocolumber products may be new to the public but it was used a long time ago especially in the rural areas. The leaves are weaved for house walling roofing and netted partition while the young leaves are used for making ketupat sarungs and the leaf stick are tight together into a broom. The solid trunks are used for bridges pilings and house pole structure. Now with further processing the large and solid trunk are converted into cocolumber veneered plywood flooring handicraft items and furniture. A palm tree with so many uses provides the potential alternative source material other than wood to be utilized by the wood industry. This paper highlighted the incentives to all smallholders and estates to continue planting the coconut trees not only for the fruits itself but to provide the trunk as raw material for the wood manufacturing industries.
