Abstract

Coir fiber and dust coco pith are valuable by-products from coconut husk. MARDI has developed a coir fiber and dust production line which consists of: a a beating machine b an inclined conveyor c a decorticating machine and d a screening machine. A coir baling machine and dust packager can be installed at the end of the processing line. Preliminary tests at three locations Serdang Kluang and Hilir Perak show fibers from husks collected from different coconut growing areas are acceptable for marketing. The decorticating machine can produce 1 ton fiber per hour. The ratio of coir fiber and coco pith produced from each coconut husk weighing 150-200 gram is 1:3.
