Abstract

Manipulation of processing conditions aimed at utilizing the resin required at an optimal level may lead to improved oriented strand board OSB board properties or performance while reducing manufacturing costs through lower resin usage. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of resin content 5 7 and 9 on board properties of OSB using Leucaena leucocephala wood. The quality of the boards was evaluated by determining the mechanical and physical properties including modulus of elasticity MOE modulus of rupture MOR internal bond IB strength and thickness swellingTS. It is interesting that 5 resin content was sufficient to give acceptable board properties. All board performances met the minimum requirements of the European standard EN 300 OSB/1 for general purpose board and it appears that L. leucocephala wood is a potential raw material for OSB manufacture.
