Abstract

Macaranga gigantea branches were used to produce particleboard at three different board densities 450 550 and 650 kg m-3 wax addition of 1 resin content of 12 and board thickness of 12 mm. Board density and wax were found to significantly affect all the board properties. Increasing board density increased the MOE MOR and IB but decreased the TS and WA. Wax addition decreased all the mechanical properties but the physical properties of TS and WA improved. However all boards failed in the IB and TS values as stipulated in the BS standards.
