Abstract

Kenaf core particleboard one-layer type was made with Dricon a phosphate-based salt which is a fire retardant. Boards of three different densities were made with urea-formaldehyde resin at amounts of 8 10 and 12 and Dricon at 8 and 12. Each particleboard was exposed to fire using the blow-torch method for 5 min and the weight 1055 was determined. Another type of fire test carried out was the fire-propagation test. Boards treated with Dricon showed lower weight losses in the blow-torch test and better fire performance in the fire-propagation test than the untreated boards.
