Abstract
The fundamentals of urban open space management suggest that a thoughtfully implemented urban development should include more than just great buildings. It should include parks and open space because both buildings and open space benefit from each other. Furthermore it helps to better understand the multiple benefits such as economic social communal environmental and aesthetic values that parks and open space add to cities and neighbourhoods all seeking improved quality of life and city amenities and facilities. The process began in the era of the Industrial Revolution in Western·countries is now being felt in an acute form because it is happening so rapidly in developing nations such as Malaysia. This review paper explores and expended on the dimension of external and internal factors that contribute to the success of a park in this case we named it the Quality Neighbourhood Park criteria. Several findings from past literature will also be imposed and further tested to validate the construct in the area of use pattern needs as well as preferences study towards residential open spaces area or in this case the neighbourhood park context. The studies reviewed in this paper offers knowledge contribution to the body of literature in developing what is most scholars has identified important for any future research. Hence the final analysis method will verge into a Structural Equation Modeling analysis technique which will come in the form of path analysis and confirmatory analysis approach. This study should help develop demonstrate and validate a new approach to achieve a Quality Neighbourhood Park design and recreational management.
