Abstract
Gunung Lang Recreational Park is one of the renowned urban parks in Ipoh. Established in 1999 this 28 hectares park was originally an abandoned tin mining area. Proud with its beautiful limestone hills and lakes Ipoh City Hall has developed this area into a recreational park. A survey was conducted with 146 respondents asked to :fill a questionnaire with regards to their demographic background visit characteristics and perceptions on the existing facilities and activities in Gunung Lang recreational area. In general respondents were found likely to come in groups rather than alone male 54.1 single 53.4 having secondary level of education 47.9 and to be full time workers group 53.4 having no incomes 4.5.9 and with the age between 21 to 30 44.5. Car was accepted as the main means of transportation 67.8 by where 77.4 of respondents spend one to two hours at the park with sight-seeing as the main motive for visit. For the study on the importance and performance; among the listed activities sight-seeing was elected as the most participated activity followed by boating while gazebo and boat were valued as facilities with the highest performance score. Both type of facilities and activities were also perceived as the strength of the park with the high score on both importance and performance. Overall however most respondents assigned a low score on performance compared to the score on the importance which suggested for some improvements on the performance of both facilities and activities. The results of this study provide useful information to aid the management in deciding the best management practices.
