Abstract

The dairy industry in Indonesia consists of 4 subsystems i.e. 1 preproduction 2production 3 postproduction and 4 services subsystems. These subsystems should be managed parallely and in harmony in order to achieve appropriate and effective results. In the dairy industry development the emphasis is not only given to the problem of the techniques of production but also to strategic planning. Government policies are very important to ensure farmers have the opportunity to access financial support and resources. Indonesia still imports more than 75 of the national milk needs. Thus acceleration of dairy industry development is imperative to ensure adequate supply of dairy products and this must be managed seriously. In Indonesia the main obstacles faced by farmers are lack of good quality calves good quality and affordable feed stability of milk price accessibility to financial suppor knowledge and skills and the farms being mainly small-scale with low milk production 8-10 liters/cow/day.
