Abstract

The first phytochemical screening was carried out on crude extracts of two Rhizophora species Rhizophora apiculata Blume Bakau minyak and Rhizophora mucronata Lam. Bakau kurap collected from Selangor. Parts of these plants stem leaf and flower were soaked into various solvents such as hexane and methanol. In the screening of methanol crude extracts all parts of both species contain alkaloids which gave strong positive reactions. The leaves gave a positive reaction for flavonoid terpenoid phenolic saponin and alkaloids. However the stems and flowers of both species showed negative result for flavonoid and terpenoid respectively.
