Abstract
Natural products have long been providing important drugs for infectious disease including fungal infections that are known to be the main cause of death in immuno-compromised patients. Plants are known to produce a lot of secondary metabolites which are recognized as a useful source of new drugs. In this study the extraction of seven potential medicinal plants for antifungal compounds in four different solvents distilled water methanol ethyl acetate and hexane was carried out. The extraction process condition was set to 300 rpm agitation for 10 hours at room temperature. Agar disc diffusion method against Aspergillus niger Aspergillus fumigatus and Fusarium solani was adopted to determine the antifungal activity. The plants involved were Val/aris glabra Ktze. ;kesidang; Mussaenda philipica Aurorae ;bunga janda kaya kuning; Cherodendrum paniculatum L. ;pokok pagoda; Artocarpus elasticus Reinw. ex Blume ;pokok terap; Alpinia galangal L. Willd ;lengkuas; Senna alata L. ;gelenggang besar; and Curcuma longa L. ;kunyit;. Only methanol ethyl acetate and hexane extracts of A. galanga inhibited the growth of all tested organism. A. galanga methanolic extract MIC value 1.25 ug/ul has the highest antifungal activity compared to the other two types of extract. This study suggested that A. galanga;s could be considered as a potential plant to for further studies.
