Abstract

At present harvesting of stevia is conducted manually. This paper reviews the design concept of the small scale stevia harvester. Currently the production of stevia is carried out in a small scale on less than one hectare of land and all operation is done manually. The production rate is inconsistent due to its high dependence on the labour force and weather condition. Hence mechanization would enable the harvesting and drying process at daily basis resulting in consistent stevia production. The three point link stevia harvester comprising of cutting blade air blow duct and collecting bag attachable to a small tractor is therefore developed. Suitable for use in small holding the three-point-link stevia harvester aims to increase the stevia production in Malaysia.
