Abstract
Mitsubishi Corporation MC was the first general trading company in the world to pursue tropical forest reforestation in 1990 as part of our growing range of environmental conservation activities. Over the past two decades these endeavors have expanded to include regeneration projects in Malaysia Brazil and Kenya each with encouraging results. Utilizing a technique developed in Japan by Dr. Akira Miyawaki of Yokohama National University seedlings planted in Malaysia during the first phase of experiments have already exceeded heights of 20 meters. It is hoped that the regeneration process will complete within 50 years as opposed to the 300 to 500 years required for natural recovery of a rain forest habitat. MC will continue supporting these efforts and do our part as a global citizen to promote the health of the global environment.
