Abstract

The forest rehabilitation in Bintulu is used planting materials from a coastal forest in the district of Bintulu. The project management set up a special nursery to provide sufficient good and high quality of planting materials. Planting of indigenous trees was the main objective to rehabilitate the degraded area. A total of 126 indigenous tree species were collected from surrounding Bintulu area since 1991. The planting stocks used in this project came from either wildings or seeds which were collected from the same type of forest. Various planting methods were implemented such as open planting which emphasizes a high density and mixed planting and under shade planting indigenous tree species under partial shade and mound planting.
