Abstract

A survey was carried out to determine fish distribution wihtin the Keniam River Taman Negara Pahang during March 2011. Fishes were collected from three zones comprising the upper middle and lower reaches of the river. At each zone fish sampling was conducted from 4 sampling stations utilizing multiple fishing gears fish traps cast nets gill nets hook and line. A total of 17 fish species from 4 families were recorded. Eighty two percent of total catch was represented by the Cyprinids. Mystus nemurus and Mystacoelucus marginatus were the most distributed within the Keniam River at the upper middle and lower reaches of the river. The Species Richness Margalef;s D for fish ranged from 2.33 to 2.96 the Shannon-Weiner H; Diversity Index ranged from 1.80 to 2.07 while the Eveness Index J ranged from 0.89 to 0.97. The upper reaches of the river had relatively higher fish species diversity than other sampling zones along the Keniam River.
