James Fry, . (2009) The outlook for palm oil in the context of global commodity markets. [Proceedings Paper]
Abstract
Palm oil prices are now tied to those of other vegetable oils and to those of many other agricultural products via biofuels. The paper will analyse those links and the reasons why this linkage has been established. It will review the behaviour of the energy market in the recent past and see what lessons may be drawn regarding its future behaviour. One particular issue that will be considered is how the growing importance of carbon credit trading may affect the economics of the production of palm oil and other agricultural commodities.
