P. Panneerselvam, . and S. Sivanesan, . and Norhashimah Morad, . (2010) Removal of nickel II ions aqueous solution using phosphoric acid modified y-zeolites. [Proceedings Paper]
Abstract
The sorptive removal of nickel ions from aqueous solution using modified H-Y zeolite was investigated large pore of H-Y zeolite was modified with phosphoric acid by wet method. The modified zeolite was converted to Na form using aqueous NaHCO3 solution. The Na form of modified zeolite represented as PNa2 -Y was characterized by XRD X-ray Diffraction BET surface area SEM Scanning Electron Microscope and AAS Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer techniques It was the tested for adsorption with aqueous NiSO4 solution. Th Ni2 content of the solution was analyzed by AAS. Phosphoric acid modified PNa -Y zeolite shows higher adsorption capacity than the parent H-Y zeolite. Equilibrium modelling data has a better fit to linear Langmuir model compared to the Freundlich model. The kinetic data was represented by pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order kinetic models The thermodynamic parameters such as change in free energy AG; enthalpy AH; and entropy AS;were also calculated. These parameters confirmed that the sorption of Ni2 is feasible spontaneous and endothermic.
