Abstract

The performance of MPOB-Nigerian DxT/TxD genetic materials were evaluated from 1998 to 2001 at Kulim Pasak Estate Kota Tinggi Johor. The evaluation involved 32 MPOBNigerian progenies using commercial DxP from eight seed producers and a standard cross Sc for comparison. Wide variations of some bunch yields and bunch quality components were found Attributed to consistent high bunch number BNO MPOB-Nigerian genetic materials was the topmost for fresh fruit bunch FFB producing 149 kg/palm/yr as compared to commercial DxP and Sc. However the oil yield 01 production was lower than commercial DxP due to very low oil to bunch O/B having only 21.37 as the main bunch components characteristics such as shell to fruit S/F and mesocarp to fruit M/F remained the handicap of the materials. The average bunch size of Nigerian materials was also comparatively smaller. In general the Nigerian materials still need improvement especially in bunch size fruitlet weight and bunch characteristics. Some progenies that were very obvious in dwarf statue would have potential for short palm programme.
