Abstract

A new cyclohexane epoxide angustifolienol together with 6-methylzeylenol which is new to the species were isolated from rhizomes of Kaempferia angustifolia. Acetylation of angustifolienol gave triacetoxyangustifolienol and diacetoxyangustifolienol. Two known cyclohexane diepoxides crotepoxide and boesenboxide 2;-hydroxy-4 4; 6;-trimethoxychalcone and zeylenol were also isolated from the rhizomes of K. angustifolia. Isolation of extracts from K. rotunda has yielded five pure compounds; crotepoxide stigmasterol benzoic acid tetracosanoic acid and -sitosterol. Four pure flavanoids were isolated from Boesenbergia rotunda Kaempferia pandurata which were pinostrobin cardamonin alpinetin and pinocembrin. The structure of these compounds were determined by spectroscopic methods such as infrared IR nuclear magnetic resonance 1H 13c and 2D-NMR and mass spectrometry MS and by comparison with the data reported previously.
