Abstract

Quality of herbal products acceptance of safety level and assurance of efficacy are those factors that will determine the acceptance of herbal products by modem society. Without proper procedures and guidelines there will be no assurance that herbal products that are contained in the bottles is the same as what is stated on the label. With respect to herbal standardization there are guidelines and procedures that have been set up such as Good Agricultural Practices GAP Post Harvest Technology and Good Manufacturing Practice GMP to achieve the global standard of herbal products. Cultivation techniques harvesting methods raw material handling types of processing methods quality assessment up to the finished products need to be monitored. These monitoring systems need to be documented in a proper way prior to produced standardized herbal products. Post Harvest Technology implies successful utilization of technology due to produce high quality herbal materials while sustaining the resources. Post Harvest Technology consists of protocol of harvesting techniques equipments being used quality assessment techniques and proper products handling before transporting to processing facilities. By using this technology finished raw products can be easily assessed and suitable to proceed to the next step of processing while preventing products deterioration. High quality raw material will be processed into finished products need to be introduced under Good Manufacturing Practice GMP facility. Good Manufacturing Practice GMP is a part of quality assurance that ensure the finish products are consistently produced and controlled to their appropriate intended quality and usage. GMP also covers the setting up of the facility qualified equipments and documentation as well.
