Abstract

The rockwool waste from CSR Building Material Klang Selangor had been used for the study. Waste from the rockwool factory had been collected processed and briquetted for the recycle purpose. Successful recycling demand the briquette should be chemically acceptable physically resemble raw material and have sufficient strength to undergo loading transporting charging and finally melting in cupola furnace. Five cm cube briquette using Ordinary Portland Cement as binder had been studied and steam cured to accelerate the strength process. Drop test and compressive strength had been compared to evaluate the strength of the briquette before recycling. Testing of the recycle briquette with raw material had been conducted at the factory. Temperature and pressure of the cupola furnace had been used to monitor the briquette performance during charging and the melting process while temperature and viscosity of the molten rock also measured to study the effect of using waste briquette. Finally chemical composition of the rockwool final product from the recycled rockwool waste was analyzed and compared.
