Abstract

Tri-n-butyl phosphate TBP was used as an excellent carrier for transport of chromium VI through a hexane bulk liquid membrane. The transport efficiency of chromium VI by TBP was investigated under various experimental conditions such as pH of the feed phase Cr VI solution concentration of receiving phase NaOH solution concentration of TBP in membrane rate of stirring and effect of transport time. The optimized condition was found to be pH of the source phase 1.0 0.1 concentration of the receiving phase 1.0 M rate of stirring 300 rpm and carrier concentration 2.25 x 10-1 M; the transport efficiency of chromium VI for 5 replicate measurements after 5 hrs was 97.1 1.1 . The proposed method was applied to chrome electro plating industrial wastewater. The transport efficiency after 5 hrs was 97 .
