She needs changes towards development in the handling distribution grading ante-and post-mortem inspection of meat and the public awareness regarding the importance of animal proteins in the diet. There is need to develop products tailored to the local taste and suitable to the climate for their keeping quality i.e. low water low pH. This could lead to significant rise in the consumption of animal proteins. The cooking methods for meat curries need evaluation and if required a systematic approach should be made towards their modification for nutritive reasons. Buffalo should and would play an important role in the meat and milk supply situation of the subcontinent India Pakistan Bangladesh with improvement in the economic status of the average farmer. Presently most animals are being fed on agricultural wastes which also limits introduction of improved stock.
