Abstract
Food irradiation has been advocated by some authors as a cure-all for food spoilage problems in developing countries while others have either denied its usefulness or have even warned against consumption of possibly harmful irradiated foods. The present contribution examines these conflicting claims in the light of recent research results and Codex Alimentarius decisions.
