Abstract

Oil Palm trunk OPT had a potential to be utilized to reduce waste from agricultural products and it could be used for laminated products such as LVL and plywood. A study was conducted to investigate the compatibility of some adhesives on the performance of oil palm veneer as a lamination product. The adhesives studied are phenol formaldehyde PF phenolresorcinol formaldehyde PRF urea formaldehyde UF and melamine-urea formaldehyde MUF. Experimental OPT Laminated veneer lumber were produced based on two spread levels 250g/m2and 500 g/m2. Laminated veneer lumber from Kedondong wood was used as a control. Some initial findings on the effect of adhesives types on shrinkage and swelling water absorption and strength tests were discussed.
