Abstract
The objective of this study is to determine the effect of enzyme pre-treatment on pulp yield delignification rate and paper strength of oil palm Elaeis guineensis empty fruit bunches EFB. The EFB was treated with two types ofenzyme at selected dosage pH retention times and temperatures. After pretreatment the EFB was pulped using soda-anthraquinone pulping process. Preliminaryresults showedthatenzyme pre-treatmentimprovedpulpproperties by increasing the yield up to 7 delignification rate up to 21 and paper strength up to 21. The enzyme types dosage pH ofliquor retention time and temperature during pre-treatment exhibited significant effect on the pulp properties.
