Abstract
Indian has very recently made it big on the tropical fruits mep but is still an energing power just laking up to the tremendous potential and thus calls for involvement of suitable strategies for production to became a strong supply-base while built-in advantage due to agro-ecological endm;nts grovng size and labour availability exist. The paper sugsests that India should pUrsue self-reliance through SPecialization and increased trade in horticultural-manufacturedgoods for which the country has canparative advantage. The given wide-ranging incentives in India to the development of tropical fruits have been reflecting the condition of transition fran controlled to narket econanies. To perfonn necCled function in develoftTlEmt of tropical fruits by private sectors JOuld require a continuous and strong government policy in ensuring the emergence of efficient competitive markets as a part of the reform process in the country.
