Abstract
Though native to warm climate papaya Carica papaya L. has adapted into tropical and sub-tropical regions of world. Its cultivation has shifted from homestead to commercial plantation. Thus/there has been substantial increase in production and productivity of papaya owing to development of high yielding good quality cultivars through breeding imoroved production technology and efficient management for pests and diseases. Papain and processed products of papaya have also been developed on commercial scale.
