Abstract

The ;Isau; or Sarawak Green Longan Dimocarpus longan spp. malesianus var. ma/esianus is a unique longan that can be commercially exploited. Fruit quality from selected clones is good with large sized fruits that have thick crispy very sweet aril and fine aroma. Seedling trees take twelve years to fruit. Grafted ones require five to nine years depending on locality as a pronounced dry period is a pre-requisite for trees to flower. Mature trees yield about 160 kg while nine years old carry up to 70 kg of fruits per season. In propagation trial the best results were obtained from inarching 83 success rate followed by wedge grafting 36 and marcotting 18 . Budgrafting gave less than 10 success rate. lsau clone Is7 is the first . clone released by the Department of Agriculture Sarawak for farmers to plant.
