Abstract

The technique of starch gel electrophoresis of isozymes was assessed on 12 clones of Averrhoa carambola to determine its use for identification. From the 9 enzymes assayed four showed polymorphism and can be used to discriminate all the clones. The polymorphic enzymes observed were malate isocitric dehydrogenase MDH shikimate dehydrogenase SDH glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase GOT and isocitric dehydrogenase IDH. Isozymic fingerprint is useful because the plants can be identified at a seedling stage.
