Jamil A. Z., . (1996) Effect of leaf ages and position on foliar composition of cashew Anacardium occidentale. [Proceedings Paper]
Abstract
For proper interpretation of foliar analysis sampling must be conducted at proper ages positions time and plant physiological state the former two being the most important. In the first set of 4 trees three existing leaf position on the twig namely tip mid and basal first second and third whorls respectively were simultaneously sampled. In the second set of 4 trees young flush were tagged and sampled at every 45 days intervals. Eight year old clonal cashew C II planted on bris soil were used for both experiments. Foliar nutrient composition varied with ages and positions. Both experiment indicated that N P K and Cu decreased with increasing leaf age but Ca Mg Mn and B increased with increasing age while those of Fe and Zn remained constant. A more stable nutrient composition were observed when the leaves reached the age 180 days. Small variations existed between mid and basal leaf position. The leaf composition at 180 days were quite similar to those of mid leaf positions. It is suggested that foliar sampling for mature cashew leaf should be taken from the second whorl from tip of twig and which is about 6-7 months old.
