Abstract

Mango of variety Chokanan harvested at different developmental stages were obtained from Fruit Research Station MARDI Bukit Tangga for maturity determination. Time after fruit set the fullness of the cheek and colour of the fruit shoulder could beused as indices of maturity for Chokanan mango. Fruit can be harvested as early as 10 weeks after fruit set with acceptable eating quality after being ripened. At t stage fruit developed full cheek with yellowish in colour at the fruit shoulder. Most mature fruits sank in water. Dry matter DM and total soluble solid TSS contents of the fruit also seemed to be useful guides for maturity since the DM and TSS contents increased rapidly at 10 weeks. Most fruits ripened on the tree at 13 weeks. Tree ripened fruits were of poor quality because the flesh close to the seed became overipe which led to formation of jelly seed and off-flavor.
