Abstract

A main importer/distributor of tropical fruits in The Netherlands FTK Holland B.Y. and the Agrotechnological Research Institute ATO-DLO have initiated a research project to improve quality management of subtropical and off-season fruits. Product quality in the distribution chain is being studied for two pilot products Thompson seedless grapes from Chile and mangoes from all over the world. The distribution chain for both products is analyzed in order to reconstruct product history. Models are developed to predict product behaviour. The results will be implemented in a Decision Support System DSS. The system will enable FTK and its upstream and downstream partners in the distribution chain to better control product quality by fine-tuning the conditions that meet the variable requirements of the products. This paper discusses the set up of the research and the first results.
